ELEMENT REPORT

Suggested Web Sites

Purpose:  To research an element and prepare a presentation to be shared with the class.  Some suggestions for your presentation are a children's story, pamphlet, poem, poster, video, rap, or jingle.  You are not limited to these suggestions and are encouraged to be creative!

Required Information:  Write down the source for each piece of information.  A bibliography for your information is required.  See NoodleTools by clicking on "bibliography."  If you have never used this before, see Mrs. Brown.

  • Element name, atomic number, chemical symbol, atomic mass, and number of natural isotopes.

  • Classification on periodic table (Is it a metal, nonmetal, or metalloid?  What family is it in?

  • What is the electron configuration (How many electrons in each energy level?)

  • Who discovered the element and when?  How did it get its name?

  • A list of the element's physical properties

  • A list of the element's chemical properties

  • How it is found in nature, as a separate element or as a compound (If a compound, give the name and chemical formula)

  • Where and how it is obtained or mined and/or processed for common use

  • A list of some common household uses for the element

  • A list of some industrial uses for the element

  • Other interesting facts

Web Sites:

Bibliographic listing of all available Periodic Table/Element Sites on the Web provided by the Chemistry Server from the Institute of Physical Chemistry, NCSR "Demokritos" Athens, Hellas.

Chemical Elements - You may be interested in the creator of this site, Yinon Bentor, who started this site in 1996 as an 8th grade science project!  It has evolved into the site you are now using.

Chemical Elements Site created by Donald O'Leary.

A Periodic Table of Elements - Originally created by Robert Husted at Los Alamos National Laboratory and currently provided as a public service by the laboratory.

Web Elements - WebElements aims to be a high quality source of information on the WWW relating to the periodic table. Coverage is such that professional scientists and students at school will all find something useful.  You will find thousands of graphics showing elements structures and periodic properties here.  Currently, most information is about the elements themselves but the scope of WebElements will include simple compounds as well in the future.
