Tell "Me a Story "- Sites to use when you are looking for a book for young children: Association for Library Service to Children - ALSC is a division of the American Library Association. There are links at this site to the Newbery and Caldecott award-winning books, a listing of publications relating to children's literacy and learning, and other reading resources for parents, children, librarians, and teachers. Booklist - Each year more than 2,500 reviews of children's books appear in Booklist magazine. The section Books for Youth is organized by age group and fiction/non-fiction. Mrs. Brown has this journal available in the library - please ask. Carol Hurst's Children's Literature Site - Many educational links at this site to encourage teaching with literature. She suggests books and activities by subjects, such as time, color, rivers, and bullies. There are links to articles on selected children's authors and illustrators, and recommendations by curriculum area for teaching with children's literature (using Robert McCloskey's Make Way for Ducklings - which takes place in Boston - and One Morning in Maine to discuss state features, for instance.) Children's Book Council - Enter this site by clicking on Publisher, Author, Artist, Librarian, Parent, Bookseller, or Teacher to find information arranged in the order most appropriate to your needs. Parent resources include advice on choosing books to read to or with a child. Children's Literature - An excellent site listing award-winning book lists and offering listings of recommended books for age groups. Database of Award-Winning Children's Literature - Looking for books with African American protagonists? Set in WWII? Or are you interested only in books that have been nominated for the Coretta Scott King award? Enter keywords and criteria into this database and it will create a reading list based on your parameters. More than 1,700 books in the database! Fairrosa Cyber Library of Children's Literature - Fans of classic children's books can download entire stories from this site. Other sections offer reviews, book recommendations by subject, and links to author sites. Once Upon a Time....a Children's Literature Web Site - Yale's Children's Lit site - very complete links. Read about your favorite children's authors; learn about the importance of characterization, setting, and theme as elements of fiction; link to libraries, zoos, and children's museums; and view beautiful artwork from children's books - and you still won't have explored everything there is to see at this site. Publishers Weekly Children's Bestseller List - Best-selling books are divided into picture books, fiction, nonfiction, series, and holiday books. Vandergrift's Children's Literature Page - Thought-provoking questions on the meaning and purpose of literature in children's lives today can be found here.
