Your Place in the World

Activity 1 - Fictional Biography

     You will visit sites to determine what profession suits you for both today and in the middle ages.  You will play the role of one of the travelers.  Introduce yourself, your profession, and your reason for the pilgrimage.  You will write a fictional/biographical narrative as an actual pilgrim along on the journey.

Activity 2 - Fictional Travel Log

     You will create your own spiritual pilgrimage to a faraway land.  You have a three-week time frame and &5,000 for which to plan.  Your travel log and accompanying poster or brochure must structure ideas and arguments in a sustained, persuasive, and sophisticated way ans support them with precise and relevant examples.

Activity 3 - Mythology

     You will research the mythology of the land you choose to visit in Activity 2.  Use 'The World and I' database to help you with this task.  You will create a chart depicting the hierarchy of gods and goddesses.  This may be in the form of a poster or a PowerPoint presentation.  You should learn the myth well enough to tell it to the class.  Feel free to accompany your narrative with music.  Create an artifact that would have significance in the culture associated with your myth.

Activity 4 - Book Activity

     Read a book whose setting is in the same country or area of the world that you researched for your journey.  Complete a written book report. 

 

Activity 5 - Poetry

     Collect at least 3 poems by a poet native to the area you have researched.  Mount the poems on construction paper and, in a paragraph for each, tell how the poem reflects the beliefs, struggles or people of the area.

Activity 6 - Personal Representation

     Construct a 3-dimensional representation of yourself.  It should include words and images that reflect your physical, intellectual, and spiritual aspects.
