NMCC Receives $100,000 Donation by Nick Violette
Good news
for seniors aiming for degrees in nursing at Northern Maine Community
College: the “TD Banknorth Charitable Foundation” has made a
generous donation - $100,000 in total, and much more is planned – to
NMCC in hopes of bolstering their scholarship funds and other
initiatives particularly of interest to nursing students. Near the beginning of December, the entire Maine Community College System presented a 6.2 million dollar plan designed to spread it’s influence into rural parts of Maine that were previously devoid of college interactions. In all, the donation will go toward early college courses for high school students, generate scholarships, assist students with childcare, provide rural students with more learning opportunities and expand the college’s associate degree program in nursing. |
CHS Holds Winter Carnival by Mackenzie Flannery Despite wintry conditions, which caused planners to change the schedule to accommodate 2 half days, CHS winter carnival was a great success again this year. MC senior Spencer McEwen lead the Harry Potter themed festivities. Entering the gym was like entering Hogwarts, with students and teachers dressed as characters from Rowling’s classic series. The sophomores ruled the Harry Potter look-a-like contest with advisor Pat Strerris winning the costume contest, and students…winning the Harry, Ron, and Herminie look-a-like competition. A first year teacher in the math department, Mr. Drost, will forever be called the pi guy, after receiving a pie in the face from Junior Chelsea Buchard. Other activities included arm wrestling, won by senior Chad Bouchard, and the tug of war, won by a very aggressive sophomore class, lead by anchor Billy Bilido; However, as tradition would have it, at the end of the day, it was the senior class who pulled off the win by a mere 20 points, beating out a very competitive group of underclassmen. |
