CHORUS

Chorus is an elective open to students in grades 5-8 at Caribou Middle School.  Ensembles are divided into 2 sections, one for grades 5 and 6 and one for grades 7 and 8.  Students meet twice weekly during the noon hour.

Students work on sight reading skills using a prescribed method book, Successful Sight Reading by Nancy Telfer, as well as accompanying activities in rhythm reading, key signature recognition, dynamic and melodic interpretation.

Students learn and utilize good posture, breath control, phasing, blend, intonation, dynamic contrast, diction and articulation.  Attention is paid to vowel placement.  A variety of choral literature including multi-cultural, foreign language, folk songs, Broadway selections, jazz standards, and spirituals among others, are performed in concerts and a once yearly, Large Group Festival.

Chorus students have the option of auditioning for All-Aroostook Chorus and Show choir which meet outside of the regular school day.
